Hammer attack in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve sends one man to hospital

A man is in hospital after an armed assault at a depanneur in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

It started around 7 a.m.

According to Montreal police, two men in their 30s started arguing on the corner of Letourneux Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street.

“They moved to a nearby commerce and the fight escalated in the store,” said Montreal police spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron.

Bergeron said one of the men picked up a hammer and attacked the other.

The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Bergeron said a bystander attempted to break up the fight, and suffered minor injuries.

The suspect was apprehended by police and taken into custody.
