Armed robbery ends in charges for Humboldt, Sask. man

Humboldt RCMP have a man in custody after an armed robbery early Thursday morning in the community east of Saskatoon.

Staff at a Main Street convenience store told police that a masked man armed with a knife entered the business just before 2 a.m. CT and demanded cash.

An employee was then taken to a washroom and told to stay there.

He then fled the store with cash and some merchandise and drove off in a GMC Terrain.

Mounties arrested him a short time later after initially stopping the SUV for an impaired driving investigation.

Derek Murray, 26, who is from Humboldt, is facing nine charges including impaired driving, theft with a weapon, unlawful confinement and possession of stolen property.

He is scheduled to appear on Friday in Saskatoon provincial court.

Humboldt is approximately 105 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
