Montreal students learn that a snow day never equates to a bad day

For some kids in Montreal, the major snowstorm that dumped over 35 cm of snow on the city was a cause for celebration. Global's Anne Leclair reports – Mar 15, 2017

Snowmageddon, winter wonderland, call it what you want. Tens of thousand of students across the island of Montreal felt like it was Christmas morning when they woke up to a snow day.

The last one for many Montreal school children dates back to close to a decade ago, in March 2008.

The cold, hard facts show that it’s unanimous: all students love snow days.

“I went in my parents room to say: ‘Wake up, wake up!’ and then they said: ‘There’s no school today.’ I said: ‘Yay’,” Grade 3 student, Charles-Olivier Thompson, said. “I was like: ‘Pow!’ I was going to explode!”

From sledding old-school style to showing off some new snowboarding skills down city streets, many Montrealers are learning that a snow day never equates to a bad day.

“It’s a very good day for snowboarding,” Secondary 1 student Victor Beaulieu said while putting his board to the test down Dorion Street.

Tens of thousand of students and their parents were forced to take the day off Wednesday and very few are complaining.

“Snow day for the mom!” Nancy Guerin said. “I tried to get some work done this morning but it got a little crazy in the house and we came out to this wonderful winter wonderland.”

What many will take home from their first snow day ever, is that staying home is fun, especially when you’re not alone.
