The Riverview, N.B. teenager battling terminal brain cancer who created a social media campaign known as #BeccaToldMeTo was honoured at the New Brunswick legislature on Tuesday for her contributions to both her community and beyond.

As proceedings resumed in the house today, the entire room rose with applause as all MLAs gave Becca Schofield a standing ovation.
The 17-year-old has gained worldwide attention for the campaign she started in mid-December where she asked people to perform acts of kindness and post their good deeds to social media using the hashtag #BeccaToldMeTo.
Since then, people not only across Canada, but the U.S., the United Kingdom and even Australia have posted good deeds using the hashtag.

Schofield said Tuesday the experience still feels surreal to know that she has impacted so many lives and hopes people will continue to spread kindness.
“I love how everyone’s taken to the message and I want to thank them for that and just don’t stop,” Schofield said.
“Kindness isn’t a one time thing. It’s not like, ‘Oh I’ve been kind for the year,’ you can be kind for the year but you should keep being kind for next year.”

The provincial legislature joins the list of those who have honoured the teen including the Toronto Maple Leafs, New Brunswick Lt.-Gov. Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
