The University of Regina Cougars women’s basketball team defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 79-76 on Saturday in consolation final of the Final 8 National Championship in Victoria.

The provincial rivals met in Saskatoon last week in the Canada West final with Saskatchewan coming out on top.

However, Regina placed fifth to end the season at the 2017 U Sports championship tournament with the recent win.

The Cougars Katie Polischuk led both teams with 21 points, while the Huskies’ Megan Lindquist had 18.

The McGill Martlets downed Laval Rouge et Or 66-55 to claim the national championship.

Saskatchewan won the national title in 2016.
