Officers responding to the call said they were met by a man who was behaving erratically and made verbal threats towards them.
Police removed a 27-year-old woman and four children from the house. The woman was taken to hospital by paramedics with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials said the man made more threats, alluding to the use of a firearm, and refused to come out of the house.
SPS crisis negotiators, along with members of the tactical support unit, were called in to help with the situation.
