Canadian women’s soccer to take on Costa Rica in Winnipeg this spring

WINNIPEG — The Canadian national women’s team is heading back to Winnipeg to take on Costa Rica on the soccer field this June.

Team Canada will play Costa Rica June 8 at Investors Group Field.

Local soccer legend, Desiree Scott and Mayor Brian Bowman made the announcement at City Hall Tuesday morning.

“This is very exciting news,” Scott said. “As a Winnipegger I am very proud to come back here. I know we saw the success of the [FIFA] World Cup that was here, the whole city rallied behind out team in that tournament.”

The team will also be playing Costa Rica for a second game in Toronto on June 11.

The Canadian women’s soccer team recently made history with back-to-back podium finishes at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Scott won the bronze medal in women’s soccer for the second Olympics in a row.
