RCMP arrest man wanted in connection with homicide southwest of Edmonton

According to RCMP, Gerald Peter Krahn was arrested without incident Saturday in connection with a homicide in the community of Warburg on Jan. 29th.

On Thursday, police said 29-year-old Krahn, formerly of Grande Prairie, was wanted on one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 36-year-old Christopher O’Reilly of Warburg, Alta.

According to police, officers responded to reports of an injured man in Warburg at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. They said O’Reilly was found suffering from injuries sustained in “an incident” and was rushed to hospital in Leduc where he was pronounced dead.

A neighbour, who didn’t want to be identified out of concern for his safety, told Global News he heard what sounded like a door being kicked down at a nearby mobile home, followed by what he believed were two gunshots.

While RCMP have not released exactly what led to O’Reilly’s death, they said an autopsy was performed Tuesday determined the manner of death to be homicide.

Police asked the public to be on the lookout for Krahn. Mounties warned not to approach him as he is considered to be “armed and dangerous.”

Krahn has been remanded into custody.

He is scheduled to appear in Breton Provincial Court on Feb. 8.

Warburg is located about 90 kilometres southwest of Edmonton and has a population of fewer than 800 people.
