A man dropped off at a downtown Calgary health centre on Monday with a gunshot wound to his head has died.
Calgary police said the victim was left at the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre by someone in a white Pontiac G5 at around 9 p.m.
After being dropped off, the victim, believed to be in his 20s, was transferred to the Foothills Medical Centre in critical, life-threatening condition. He later died.
In a Tuesday news conference, Insp. Don Coleman said it’s believed the shooting happened in a parking lot in the 900 block of 36 Street N.E., between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
About an hour after the victim was dropped off, police pulled over a vehicle in the area of 17 Avenue and 19 Street S.W. and approached the driver with their guns drawn.
The driver appeared to be covered in blood, as was the inside of his vehicle. He was taken into custody for questioning but released on Tuesday morning.
Coleman said it’s not yet known what involvement, if any, he may have had – but said it’s thought he was in the victim’s vehicle.
Coleman confirmed the man had minor injuries when he was apprehended.
He said both the victim and the man taken into custody are known to police.
“We believe there’s other people involved. Who they are and what roles they had is still to be determined.”
“We’ve had very little co-operation from anybody so far,” Coleman added.
