First Nations are rallying across the country in protest of the federal government’s controversial omnibus budget bill.
Hundreds gathered on the Blood Reserve Monday to protest Bill C-45 and support members across the country.
Chief Charles Weasel Head told Global News the rally displays that a warning bell has been sounded.
“There’s a sleeping giant that is finally going to be awakened and enough is enough on this matter,” he adds.
The bill put forward by the Harper government has created a movement across Canada.

Band member Tonia Wells says the massive bill includes changes to things like the Indian Act and Fisheries Act that will negatively affect more than just the First Nations’ community.
“I think all Canadians need to start looking at all these bills trying to be passed because it’s not only going to affect us First Nations, it’s going to affect all Canadians citizens throughout the country, ” she adds.
Band member Lillian Steele says Bill C-45 is like a huge slap in the face because the government failed to consult with band members over changes to policies that effect First Nations people.
“There should be a lot of frustration with the Harper government. He hasn’t been consulting with the people so we are here to voice our concerns as one voice and stand together as one people,” she adds.
Band members vow to take action moving forward to protect their rights, the environment and the future of their children.
“I think this is the straw that broke the camel’s back and I think the First Nations people are going to rise with the force I know they will,” says Chief Weasel Head.
Weasel Head adds more than 600 tribes across Canada are now developing a national strategy to address concerns with Bill C-45.
