Nearly 300 tickets handed out on first day of seasonal parking ban

EDMONTON- Bylaw officers have been patrolling city streets since early Friday morning, enforcing the seasonal parking ban.

Police say by 4:00 Friday afternoon, officers had handed out 271 tickets to those whose vehicles were still parked on designated parking ban routes. 32 vehicles were also been towed from city streets.

Crews finished grading arterial roads Thursday, and the started clearing bus routes Friday morning.

The seasonal parking ban came into effect at 7a.m. Friday and will be in place until plowing on bus routes has been completed. Then, crews will start a five day blading cycle in residential areas.

This is the second time the seasonal parking ban has been implemented this fall. During Edmonton’s first seasonal parking ban more than 600 tickets were issued. 

The only exception to the parking ban applies to people with a designated handicap parking stall in front of their homes and a current handicap placard.
