New towers could bring big change to Calgary’s skyline

CALGARY – Just months after the opening of the Bow Tower, the city’s skyline is set to change once again.

Brookfield Properties confirming on Saturday that it has submitted a plan to build two new office towers on 2nd street and 6th avenue.

One of the towers would be 247 metres in height, making it the tallest building in the city’s core.

And it’s not just the height of the towers that has the developers boasting. Brookfield is also trying to win over Calgarians with a year-round winter garden that could house community and corporate events.

Councillor Druh Farrell says the project is just one more step towards Beautifying our city.

“I don’t think Calgary traditionally has had a great reputation for architecture and urban beauty and we’ve started demanding better and we just continue to raise the bar,” says Farrel.

The city still needs to approve the project, but developers are hopeful they can have the towers ready by 2017.
