Police in a small New York town responded to a call on Friday from a concerned citizen who said there was an elderly woman in a parked car “frozen to death.”

It was around -13 C that morning in Hudson, just south of Albany.

According to a press release from the department, a rescue squad was dispatched and found the woman in a snow-covered car “not moving and unresponsive.”

A police officer broke a window to get to the woman, only to find that it was “an extremely realistic life-sized mannequin.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Photos show the mannequin was seated upright in the passenger seat, wearing a seat belt. The mannequin was also wearing glasses and an oxygen mask and was dressed in a shirt, sweater and pants. The mannequin’s face and hands are even detailed with age spots.

Police chief L. Edward Moore said the owner arrived at the scene after his car window was smashed in. He was upset and “incredulous.”

He told police he works as a medical training aid salesman and that he used the mannequin as a CPR dummy.

“He apparently was quite vocal and vulgar to my sergeant,” he said. “Just to clear the record, all citizens of Hudson should be put on notice that if you park your locked vehicle on the street on a sub-zero night with a life-size realistic mannequin seated in it … We will break your window.”
