Two people were taken to hospital with unknown injuries Saturday as crews worked to douse a house fire in northeast Edmonton.

The fire broke out in a home in the area of 121 Avenue and 93 Street at around 10 a.m.

Flames could be seen coming out of the roof of the home as firefighters worked to bring the fire under control.

“Guys are just trying to make sure the fire doesn’t extend to the other houses nearby,” Dan Klingbeil, acting district chief with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, said.

The frigid temperatures proved difficult for fire crews. Buses were brought in to help keep the firefighters warm.

“It’s very cold,” Klingbeil said. “The guys are working in the cold so everything gets slippery really quick. Everything weighs more as soon as it ices up.

“The trick here is to keep safe and to make sure we take care of putting the fire out all at the same time.”

Klingbeil said everyone made it out of the home.

It’s not known what caused the fire.
