WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police have confirmed a woman was killed in a crash that happened on the Disraeli Freeway Wednesday.

Around 2:45 p.m., police were called on scene to Disraeli Freeway at Argyle Street for reports of a two-vehicle collision.

A Saturn SL1 was travelling northbound on the Disraeli Freeway when it crossed over the centre median and was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Cavalier, police said.

The driver of the Saturn, a 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital in stable condition while the passenger, a 33-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

Witnesses on scene told Global News the woman was on the ground receiving CPR and that one of the cars briefly caught fire after the crash.

The driver of the Cavalier was treated for minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate.
