A Calgary man is recovering from burns after his mobile home exploded in flames Wednesday evening.
He was rescued from the blaze by a next door neighbour at the Midfield Mobile Home Park in the city’s northeast.
“I just saw flames coming out that window right over there and my financé went over and helped him out,” Shelayna Vinkle said.
The blaze broke out at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Other residents said they were surprised to hear sirens as the Calgary Fire Department responded to the call and extinguished the flames.
“We saw the flames and it was big and it was scary,” Carla Chalanchuk said.
“I had to wonder for a moment if we were all going to be evacuated.”
The man who suffered burns was later released from hospital.
Neighbours said he is in his late 50s and was a quiet resident who regularly walked his dog in the complex.
The trailer park is owned by the City of Calgary.
A spokesperson said because the man’s home was destroyed, they will be discussing other housing options with him.
