Girl, 17, killed in Huron County crash

VANASTRA, Ont. – A 17-year-old girl is dead and a 19-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash in Huron County.

Ontario Provincial Police say a car was travelling on London Rd., near the community of Vanastra on Tuesday afternoon, when the driver came upon traffic waiting to turn left.

Police say it appears the driver went around the stopped vehicles on the gravel shoulder, but lost control of the car as it returned to the pavement, then crossed into the opposing lane and was hit by an armoured truck.

The only passenger in the car – 17-year-old Bethany Blanchard of Clinton, Ont. – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 19-year-old Nicholas Dimmers of Clinton, was taken to a hospital in London with life threatening injuries.
