When Monica Sikorski was 17, she had her boyfriend murdered. And now, for that crime, she has been sentenced to life in prison.

That’s what a Kamloops Supreme Court judge heard Monday when the now 25-year-old woman was sentenced after pleading guilty to her role in the shooting of Tyler Myers back in 2008.

The 22-year-old Salmon Arm man was found dead on a trail adjacent to Bastion Elementary School, killed by a single gunshot wound.

It was a cold case until 2012, when RCMP announced two teens were arrested and charged with first degree murder.

At the time of the arrest, police would only say it was a planned murder.

The judge was told Monday Sikorski was romantically involved with Myers and her co-accused.

She lured Myers to the trail and the 16-year-old boy fired a rifle from the trees, killing him.

B.C. Supreme Court Justice Sheri Donegan called the crime “inexplicable,” saying Sikorski had privileges and opportunities many youths can only dream of and the crime’s apparent lack of motive remains baffling.

Back in 2012, RCMP said Myers parents were very surprised when they heard who was accused of their son’s murder.

Sikorski pleaded guilty to second degree murder in November, just before her trial was about to begin.

Crown counsel successfully had her sentencing elevated to adult court, lifting a ban on her identity which was in place because she was a minor at the time of the crime.

She will not be eligible for parole for seven years.

Her co-accused has already been convicted of first-degree murder and will be sentenced Jan. 23.

It is expected his identity will also be revealed as the crown has requested he be sentenced as an adult as well.

Police also arrested Justin James Doussept and charged him with accessory after the fact to murder and obstructing justice related to the death of Myers, but charges were dropped in 2014.
