Arctic air invades Saskatoon, dropping daytime highs into the -20s before the polar vortex freezes Saskatoon even further this weekend.
Saskatoon Forecast
Tuesday
Minus 30 is what it felt like with wind chill Tuesday morning after some very light snow fell overnight.
Clouds cleared out a bit during the morning, bringing in some sunshine, but also allowing temperatures to fall back to -19.
Winds gusted around 40 km/h at times, making temperatures in the low minus teens feel like the low -20s into the afternoon.
Overnight partly to mostly cloudy skies stuck around with a chance of light snow as temperatures fall back to around -18 or -19.
Wednesday
-30 is around what it’ll feel like with wind chill when heading out the door Wednesday morning with a northwesterly wind gusting upwards of 30 to 40 km/h making it feel quite brisk outside.
Mostly cloudy skies with a chance of flurries will be the order of the day along with an afternoon high in the mid-minus teens, but it’ll feel like the -20s all day with wind chill.
Thursday-Friday
Arctic air continues to funnel in for the rest of the week with a strong high pressure system in the north, helping clear skies out and give us some sunshine on Thursday before clouds build back into the region on Friday.
Daytime highs both days will sit in the low minus teens both days with morning lows pushing back into the -20s with wind chill values making it feel close to or into the -30s at times.
Weekend Outlook
Before it does so, a system sliding by south of the city will kick up a good chance of flurries on Saturday, keeping us in the clouds with an afternoon high around -19 or -20 degrees before we may get a few sunny breaks on Sunday.
The polar vortex, the coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere that normally sits over the North Pole, will then push in from the north on Sunday.
This will cause temperatures to plummet even further with a daytime high in the -20s and morning wind chill values pushing toward the -40s into early next week.
