KELOWNA — Some major changes are coming to help address the ongoing issue of parking at Kelowna General Hospital.
A report, endorsed by city council Monday, recommends a number of changes.
For starters, the report says parking on street frontages adjacent to the hospital should be converted to hourly paid parking, replacing the existing two-hour parking limit. It says pay parking will allow visitors to park longer than two hours and ensure a turnover of vehicles.
The city is also restricting overnight parking to residents only in an effort to encourage visitors to use onsite parking at the hospital which it says is under-utilized.
It’s also reviewing the existing visitor pass program to “reduce fraudulent use of permits.”
The report says staff are considering discontinuing the use of the fully transferable permits that are issued annually and open to misuse.
The new parking regulations are expected to be implemented in the new year.
