Twitter Canada’s biggest moments in 2016: Justin Bieber and Justin Trudeau break records

Twitter Canada has released its year-end data, giving us some insight into which Canadians were popular on the social media service during 2016.

There were many Canadian Twitter milestones for 2016, but Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) achieved a huge one when he became only the second Twitter user (Katy Perry was the first) to reach 90 million followers.

Toronto rapper Drake (@drake) became the second Canadian musician to reach 30 million followers and Justin Trudeau (@JustinTrudeau) became the first Canadian politician to reach 2 million followers.

As for sports, the Toronto Raptors (@Raptors) and Montreal Canadiens (@CanadiensMTL) became the third and fourth professional sports team in Canada to reach 1 million followers. Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista (@JoeyBats19) became the sixth active player in Major League Baseball with more than 1 million followers.
