Battle continues with Regina and the RM of Sherwood

A battle brewing between the city of Regina and the rural municipality of Sherwood took centre stage at city hall last night.

The dispute is over the construction of a new tire plant, last week the R-M of Sherwood signed a deal with Kal-Tire to build a $25 million distribution centre on the outskirts of Regina.

Last night, the city raised its concerns over the project’s rate of growth and the location of the plant, but they’re not opposing the development altogether.

Council plans to hold a meeting with the executive committee in December to revise its options.

“If we keep our eye on the issue of development, working together, we can solve the problem. So it’s about relationships, it’s about opportunity, and ensuring we do the best we can for our citizen”, said Regina mayor Michael Fougere.

Fougere also says he plans on meeting with the R-M later this week.
