The Ridge Meadows RCMP are investigating a video that shows vandals trashing Christmas decorations outside a Pitt Meadows home over the weekend.
The incident took place Sunday just after midnight on Wildwood Place. The security footage shows three young men jumping out of a car, kicking the inflatable decorations and pulling lights out of the bushes.
“What’s the purpose of it, why would they ruin someone else’s yard?” Celene Partridge, who posted the video on Facebook, said.
The festive display has become a tradition in her fiancé’s family. Each year they add a new decoration to the yard. Partridge said this Christmas is special because it’s the first for their nine-month-old daughter Mia.
“We don’t want Christmas to be a fear for her that the big bad bullies are going to come and knock over our stuff,” Partridge said.
Police said the actions can be passed off as a simple prank but that they also fall under mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada.
Neighbours said they look forward to this time of year as the decorations bring the community together.
“That’s why we love doing this and are looking forward to going up and down our street,” Laurie Copeland said.
“It’s devastating. Especially more so this time of year because everybody is looking for that hope,” she added.
Partridge said by sharing the video she hopes someone will be able to identify the three Grinches.
“It’s not just ‘they’ll get a slap on the wrist,’ we want them to pay for our decorations if they get caught.”
