Members of the Tsuut’ina Nation have elected a new chief.
Mount Royal University instructor Lee Crowchild defeated Roy Whitney to assume the role, according to unofficial election results released on Wednesday.
“I want to thank the Tsuut’ina people for their support in this election,” Crowchild said in a news release. “I ran on a pledge to promote our culture, our spirituality and to preserve our precious environment. I also pledged to head an administration that is prudent, transparent and responsible.”
“We have amazing resources and potential, my goal is to preserve and grow them responsibly for future generations of Tsuut’ina people.”
The results are subject to a five-day review, and need to be verified by Tsuut’ina elections officers.
Approximately 70 per cent of Nation members cast a ballot.
