Calgary police have charged Zachery Frederick Rider with second degree murder after a Calgary man was found dead inside a Bankview home earlier this week.
The 36-year-old was taken into custody for questioning Friday, after police asked for the public’s help in locating him Thursday. At that time, they stopped short of calling him a suspect, but suggested he may have information about the homicide of Richard Pember.

The 58-year-old’s body was found inside a transitional housing complex in the 1800 block of 17 Street S.W. Tuesday after the roomate of the deceased showed up at a Calgary Fire Department station on 10 Ave. S.W. He told crews at the station he thought his roommate was dead.
In a press release Saturday, police said Rider was “also charged with one count of assault and one count of assault with a weapon in relation to injuries sustained by a second victim at the same location where Richard Pember was found.”
Rider is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Police said the investigation is ongoing but they were not searching for additional suspects.
