Police say a 22-year-old Lethbridge woman is facing several charges after a police officer was hit by a car Tuesday night.
Three police cars were also damaged in the incident and there was a multi-vehicle crash on Mayor Magrath. Police said the events that unfolded were the result of a suspect attempting to evade arrest.
Alyssa Chantel Krushel is now facing several charges, including assaulting a police officer.
In a release, the Lethbridge Police Service said a short-term investigation into a series of property offences saw members of the Priority Crimes Unit locate Krushel while she allegedly parked a stolen white Pontiac Sunfire outside of Smitty’s, along the 2000 block of Mayor Magrath Drive South.
Police said as an officer was opening his car door to arrest the woman, she allegedly backed the Sunfire into him and the police car.
Police allege she fled in the Sunfire in an attempt to avoid arrest which led to crashes involving three police cars and one other car in the parking lot as well as another crash involving three vehicles on Mayor Magrath Drive.
Police said the officer hit by the Sunfire was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.
Other drivers involved in the crashes weren’t injured.
Police said a search of Krushel’s car found stolen property and stolen identity documents.
They also said the car itself was also stolen as well as the licence plate on it.
Krushel is facing nine charges in connection with the incident:
- assaulting a peace officer with a weapon;
- resisting a peace officer;
- fleeing from a peace officer;
- dangerous driving;
- failing to remain at the scene of an accident;
- theft and possession of stolen property under $5,000
- breach of recognizance
- possesion of identity documents
Police said their investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely. Krushel is remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov.25.
