First responders across the Lower Mainland are mourning the loss of a Surrey firefighter killed in a crash in Delta Sunday.

The Surrey Firefighters Association posted on Facebook saying Ryan Hammerer was killed while on his way to work.

Hammerer was with the Surrey Fire Department for 15 years.

He was killed on Ladner Trunk Road between 104 and 112 Streets when his Jeep and a semi-truck collided around 9 a.m.

Delta Police said the Jeep was travelling eastbound when it veered off Ladner Trunk Road and struck a semi that was parked off the roadway.

It was a dangerous weekend on Lower Mainland roads. Another crash in Surrey killed two people when a pick-up truck and a Kia Soul collided at 81 Avenue and King George Boulevard.
