Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson tweeted Saturday he intends to make a bid to keep the top job at City Hall in next year’s election.
“That’s my intent, though it’s too early to campaign,” Iveson said in the tweet, confirming a report on a blog that he would run for re-election. “Indeed, the less we campaign, the longer we govern, the more of service #yegcc can be.”
The Edmonton-born politician was first elected to city council as a councillor in 2007. On Oct. 21, 2013, Iveson was elected as the mayor of Alberta’s capital.

Edmonton’s next municipal election will be held in just under a year on Oct. 16, 2017.

Iveson has developed a significant political profile nationally as well as locally as a result of his outspoken beliefs on the importance of Canada’s major cities receiving increased funding for infrastructure.
