If you’re considering starting your Christmas shopping this weekend, there’s a globally-conscious alternative to the mall happening right here in Edmonton.
The Just One World market features 25 different non-profit and charitable organizations selling items for trade in the global marketplace.
All profits go to building sustainable communities internationally as well as educational initiatives, health and sanitation projects.
“Most people start thinking {about} the holiday season, about gift giving and donations, and this is a way you can combine everything together where not only are you buying a fabulous gift for somebody, but you’re also making a donation at the same time,” organizer Kristi Anderson said.

The two-day event features 25 different vendors from every continent on the globe, selling everything from jewelry, art, handmade rugs, printed textiles, hand creams, lip balms, clothing and more.
“You will find things that you won’t find anywhere else – handmade items made right across the world to things made right here in the Boyle McCauley neighourhood,” Anderson said.
Shoppers are also invited to sample international food and music.
“It’s just that festive, together sort of feeling,” Anderson added.
The market previously operated under the name Just one Christmas, but Anderson said this year they wanted to reach out to more people.
“This is our first year as Just One World. We’ve been operating for over 35 years as Just One Christmas. This year, we really wanted to change the name to something that’s really represented the inclusiveness of the event, the breadth of the event and its global reach.”
The event continues Sunday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Ital-Canadian Seniors Association.
