Calgary career coach Richard Bucher joined Global’s Linda Olsen to highlight the top three tips when considering contract work—and the common mistakes people make.

  1. Know your brand: Bucher says it’s important to articulate what you have to offer and how you will package it for your target market
  2. Know your market: Bucher says you can’t be all things to all people. “It’s not about blasting messages out into the virtual universe to let people know what you might be interested in doing.”
  3. Use your ears more than your mouth: Bucher says asking informed questions will garner information on where the work is, as well as the problems companies are facing that you can help solve, making you stand out as a candidate.
