16 Nova Scotians have chosen medically assisted dying: health authority

Sixteen Nova Scotians have chosen medically assisted dying in the province as of the end of October, according to the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA).

The NSHA says they released the numbers after enough patients had died by medically assisted dying that there was no risk of a privacy breach.

The health authority says they won’t be releasing information about individual cases, places the deaths took place or the care providers involved.

Canada’s contentious assisted dying law, Bill C-41, was passed this past spring.

In June, the NSHA revealed four patients were being assessed for assisted dying access.
