It’s a long way to Nashville from Montreal – even if you drive.
But that doesn’t phase one Grade 4 class at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Marie-Anne Portelance’s students are “running” 1,722 km to Nashville as part of an exercise routine to help them better concentrate in class.

“In the last few years, I have been experimenting with physical activity and attention in class,” she explained.
“When we come back into class, we’re ready to work.”
Portelance chose Nashville as an objective for one simple reason: that’s where former Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban landed after the team traded him for Nashville Predators‘ Shea Weber during the summer.

The students’ first milestone came earlier in the school year, when they made it as far as Ottawa.
Soon after came Toronto, then Niagara Falls.

“I am proud of my students who are being physically active. It helps them be more attentive in class,” Portelance said.
The students expect they’ll probably make it to “see” Subban in late winter.
Portelance said she was inspired by Subban’s charitable work with the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

She has reached out to the hockey player over social media, but has yet to receive a response.
