YARMOUTH, N.S. – A landmark business in southwestern Nova Scotia has fallen victim to a sluggish economy.
After 43 years, the Colony Restaurant and Chowder House in Yarmouth will be closing its doors in eight weeks.

Jim Gertridge, operations manager for Rodd Hotels, says many of the restaurant’s 17 employees will move to the Rodd Grand Hotel, also in Yarmouth.
Mark Rodd, CEO of Rodd Hotels and Resorts, said the business was hurt by the suspension of the ferry service that linked Yarmouth with Maine.
The 65-room Rodd Colony Harbour Inn closed in January of 2011.
