More Albertans rolling up sleeves for flu shots this year

So far, nearly 347,000 people have received the influenza vaccine, compared to about 280,000 this time last year.

However, Alberta is seeing more cases of the flu compared to last year. So far, there have been 97 confirmed cases across the province, including nine in Edmonton.

While there have been no fatalities recorded due to flu, 32 Albertans have been hospitalized.

In 2015, the flu season started late. By this time last year, Alberta only marked 35 cases, with 11 people in hospital.

So far this year, those numbers have tripled.

  • 122,527 doses of influenza vaccine had been administered in the Edmonton Zone as of Oct. 29, 2016
  • 92,950 doses had been administered in the Edmonton Zone last year at the same time into the vaccine program
