Sud-Ouest construction creating bus headache for residents

WATCH ABOVE: Construction in Montreal's Sud-Ouest borough has commuters annoyed as bus routes are being rerouted and stops are being moved. As Global's Billy Shields reports, some equate it to a game of cat-and-mouse – Nov 1, 2016

The 191 bus drops Denis Mendez just meters away from his job at a Saint-Henri cafe, near the corner of Notre-Dame and Saint-Remi streets.

But there’s a problem.

Due to ongoing roadwork in the area, Mendez’s bus stop has been moved, meaning he often has to play a game of cat-and-mouse to figure out how he’s getting home.

“It adds like an hour a day to my commute,” he told Global News.

Mendez is joining a growing chorus of voices in Saint-Henri, Pointe Saint-Charles and Verdun who are finding their commute stymied by moving bus stops due to the constant construction.

Sud-Ouest borough councillor Craig Sauvé explained information concerning shifting bus stops is available online.

But he added looking those details up every morning isn’t always a top priority for commuters who routinely use the same bus routes.

As for Mendez, he’s planning to cut the bus out of his routine entirely, and will now simply walk to work from the Lionel-Groulx Metro station.
