Webinar on marital advice, obedience raises questions about new Toronto police chaplain

Prior to becoming the Toronto Police Service’s new Muslim chaplain, Musleh Khan taught a webinar in 2013 on marital advice which included topics such as obedience, “how the wife should make herself available to her husband” and how to serve her husband.

A video of the lesson posted on YouTube on March 24, 2013, tells how a wife “should be obedient to her husband at all times” and intimacy should not be withheld from her spouse “without a valid excuse.”

“If she refused without a valid reason then she has committed a major sin,” Khan said.

The webinar, which is titled, “The Heart of the Home: The Rights and Responsibilities of the Wife,” also includes a slideshow that describes how a wife should ask permission from her husband before leaving the house.

Khan, who was born in Saudi Arabia, is described in the video’s introduction as being raised in Toronto and studied Islamic law at the Islamic University in Madinah.

According to Toronto police, Khan’s role is to provide spiritual support for Muslim officers and to act as a liaison between police and the Muslim community.

Global News reached out to the Toronto Police Service and the police union for comment, but has not yet received a response.
