A Calgary couple is revealing what it takes to go the distance. Joe and Dorothy Wegleitner are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year.
The couple met in 1945 in rural Saskatchewan, and within one year Joe proposed to Dorothy.
The Wegleitners have lived through many changes in the world around them, and Joe told Global News it comes down to give and take, “she gave and I took.”

Humour has obviously played a key role in their success — Joe joked he was too nervous to propose to Dorothy in daylight, so he popped the big question at night.
According to their granddaughter Naomi, the couple is more in love now than ever before.
When asked to reveal the secret to their success, Joe explained the two never had much of a need to argue.
“When one started, I wouldn’t say anything, and she couldn’t argue alone,” he said.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with five children, nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
