Richmond RCMP are investigating after an early morning collision claimed the life of a 23-year-old female.
Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a Honda Civic travelling east on Westminster Highway crashed into a westbound Audi R8 in the intersection of No. 4 Road. The Honda then crashed into a third vehicle, a Toyota Venza, that was stopped on No. 4 Road.
The Honda and the Audi sustained major structural damage, while the Toyota was relatively less damaged.
The female victim, a passenger in the Honda, was trapped inside the vehicle. Richmond Fire and Rescue Services were able to extract her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, along with another passenger, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and have since been released.
The drivers of the Audi and the Toyota appeared uninjured and were not taken to hospital.
The investigation is in the early stages, but police say speed was “definitely” a factor.
