A water main break in Abbotsford Saturday morning has left at least 10 people displaced and a home severely flooded.
At around 2 a.m., a burst in a water main flooded the intersection of Marshall Road and Jackson Street. The water then leaked into a home on the east side of the area through the carport.
An Abbotsford police officer spotted the flooding while on patrol, and alerted and evacuated the residents of the flooded house. Another home was evacuated upon arrival of fire and city crews. No lives were in danger.
The first home evacuated took in over four feet of water, and will need restoration work done before the residents are allowed back inside.
City crews have isolated the incident and the intersection is now clear. A spokesperson with Abbotsford Fire and Rescue Services says no other homes are at risk of flooding.
The cause of the breakage has not been determined, however residents of the area say Telus crews were installing fibre optic cables on Friday. Abbotsford Fire and Rescue Services won’t confirm Telus’ presence in the area or whether this could be the cause.
