‘Aggressive’ coyote shot at University of Saskatchewan campus

Saskatoon police say an “aggressive” coyote was killed Saturday at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) campus.

A warning was issued at around 9:40 a.m. CT following reports that a coyote was chasing people and pets in the area of Seminary Crescent and North Road.

Officers arrived at the U of S and quickly located the coyote. Police said the animal did not flee as they approached and instead postured aggressively and howled at officers.

Faced with a danger to public safety, the coyote was shot with a rifle handled by an animal destruction officer.

The area has since been reopened to the public.
