Pedestrians argue they have to navigate through blocked-off sidewalks and detours because three street corners are under construction at the same time.

The work is to repair the aqueducts and sidewalks.

“People can’t find parking,” said Rini Sourliga, general manager of B&M restaurant.

“They come in the morning, they turn around, once, twice and they leave. We are not as busy as we used to be.”

Residents complained the borough and city did not effectively communicate roadwork plans, so they didn’t have time to properly prepare.

“Unfortunately there’s been a lack of organization,” said Eric, property owner at the intersection who refused to give his last name.

“They’ve shut water to my property here, we weren’t informed. I was getting calls all day from tenants.”

These complaints speak to a larger problem.

“We no longer have enough engineers to actually coordinate the work of these big contracts that we’re given,” said Peter McQueen, city councillor.

Construction on the intersection will continue into the fall as it is also slated to be re-paved.
