Police made the announcement Wednesday following an investigation that started in August of this year.

That’s when the CPS claims to have received information regarding the alleged sale of a shotgun to a man without the required licence. It was also alleged that the firearm was not properly stored within the purchaser’s home.

Police said the firearm was legally held by its previous owner.

The name of the 26-year-old service member charged is not being released because, according to the CPS, the investigation stemmed from a domestic matter.

“[To] protect the welfare of the family involved, no names will be released by the service,” police said in a news release.

Police have placed the man charged on administrative leave and his status will be continually reviewed.
