RCMP asked motorists to drive carefully on the Queen Elizabeth 2 Highway south of Edmonton as a weather system moved through the region Friday afternoon.
Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for areas of central Alberta, including Edmonton, which caused poor road conditions on the QEII.
The snowfall created poor visibility and very slippery road surfaces.
Drivers were advised to slow down and drive with caution.
The Integrated Traffic Unit placed a tow ban on the QEII between Edmonton and Millet early Friday afternoon but the ban was lifted later in the day.
Strathcona County RCMP also issued a warning to drivers, saying officers responded to eight collisions in a 90-minute period Friday afternoon.
“To ensure everyone arrives home safe this afternoon, drivers need to slow down and drive according to the road conditions.” Const. Chantelle Kelly of the Strathcona County RCMP said.
