Dallas Edwards, his wife Monika, and their two children were victims of a house fire and a home robbery within days of each other.

Edwards said he had just put his six-month-old daughter to bed Friday night when he noticed smoke coming from the outside of his Michelle Crescent home.

The family evacuated almost immediately.

“Monika didn’t even have any shoes and we had a blanket for [the] baby and that was kind of it,” said Edwards.

They went back to check on the status of the house Monday.

“We wanted to get pictures and other personal items and we found out some stuff was missing,” said Edwards. “The drawers had all been rummaged through. [Monika’s] jewelry was gone. The TV was missing too.”

Thieves entered the home sometime between Saturday and Monday and made off with thousands of dollars in stolen property.

Edwards doesn’t have renter’s insurance.

“It hurts. Just the whole week and the whole process. I don’t know how someone could do that. We’re going through a personal crisis here.”

The family is staying with relatives.

RCMP are investigating the theft and would like to hear from anyone with information.
