Semi gets stuck at Winnipeg Street underpass

It’s a sight that is not uncommon for Regina drivers.

Just after 9 a.m. Friday, a semi-trailer got stuck at the Winnipeg Street underpass, just north of Dewdney Avenue.

In recent years, the city has added multiple warning signs at underpasses that let semi drivers know that anything over 3.8 metres high will get stuck. There have been a number of incidents where underpasses are damaged by vehicles that have exceeded the height limit.

In June, Ward 5 Coun. John Findura submitted a motion for the city to look at having both metric and imperial measurements on certain traffic signs. For example, a sign reading 3.8 metres would also read 12.5 feet.

Another contributing factor to the incidents on Winnipeg Street is it is listed as a designated truck route on some GPS services.

The driver who got stuck on Friday was ticketed for driving without due care and attention. The ticket costs $280 under the Traffic Safety Act.
