At Grevin Wax Museum you’re not encouraged to touch the sculptures. But if you go a little further, in a room tucked in the back, past Ghandi and Celine Dion, you must use your hands.
It’s the new Super Mario and friends: the exhibit, an immersive experience into the world of the classic Nintendo characters.
The exhibit starts with a timeline of the game – spoiler alert – it all begins with Donkey Kong in the 1800’s. But if you are a hard core fan, you already knew that.
What you might not know, whether you’re a fan or not, is exactly how the-soon-to-be released ‘Paper Mario Colour Splash’ works. At the exhibit, you can try your hand at bringing colour back into fading Prism Island along with nine other games.
Red beanie bags surround stations with Nintendo consoles, where you can sit and challenge friends, family or strangers online.
Visitors can also take pictures with the Super Mario games in a 3D photo booth.
Boards with little-known facts about Mario’s partners in crime are displayed throughout the room. For example, did you know that Goombas, the mushroom-like creatures Mario and friends stomp on are in fact, chestnuts?
Those who attend will also have the chance to win prizes and Mario will make occasional appearances to greet kids during the exhibition.
The exhibit opens up Friday, Oct. 6 and will remain until Jan. 8, 2017, at the Eaton Centre’s Grevin museum in downtown Montreal.
