Vancouver homeless shelter catches fire

Sergrio Magro / Global News

Vancouver Fire crews dealt with a fire at the former Quality Inn on Howe Street on Thursday afternoon.

The fire was located on the seventh floor of the building, which now functions as a 157-room homeless shelter.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

One man died in a fire at the shelter in April.

Vancouver Fire Department said there are no known injuries at this time. They have not determined the cause of the fire, but say one suite was involved.

The overpass onto the Granville Street Bridge was closed to allow fire crews access to the site, causing traffic delays in and out of downtown.
