Two 14-year-old boys from Clarington, Ont. are facing charges after attempting to speed away from police in the family car.
Durham police said it happened Friday night in Courtice, Ont. after officers noticed a 2016 Chrysler driving down Highway 2 with no tail lights.
When police signalled to the driver to pull over, the car accelerated instead, turning south onto Darlington Boulevard before veering off the road and ramming into a cable utility box. The driver then steered back onto the road but eventually lost control.
The Chrysler collided with a car parked on the driveway outside a Kingswood Drive home, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.
Police said the young driver then tried to flee on foot before officers arrested him nearby. The passenger was also arrested at the scene. Neither of the teens were hurt.

The driver faces five charges including dangerous driving, flight from police and driving without a licence. Police said the Chrysler belonged to a member of the boy’s family.
The passenger has been charged with occupant of a motor vehicle taken without consent.
Both were later released and cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
