UBCO volleyball team undefeated in weekend tournament

It was a mixed weekend for UBCO teams.

Fresh off playing for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during the royal visit to Kelowna, the UBC Okanagan Heat women’s volleyball team were victorious at a pre-season tournament in Ottawa this weekend.

The team went 5-0 at a tournament hosted by the University of Ottawa.

They defeated Acadia University, Guelph, Sherbrooke University and the University of Ottawa in pool play. Then on Sunday, the Heat bested McMaster in five-sets in the championship.

Meanwhile, on the soccer pitch, the Heat men’s soccer team came away from a weekend doubleheader in Prince George with one win and one loss.

On Sunday, the Heat were shut out by the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves. The Heat fell 3-0 to their northern rivals.

The defeat comes on the heels of a 2-0 victory for the Heat against the Timberwolves Saturday. Shots by Spencer Young and Corbin Beauchemin both found the back of the net.

The men’s soccer team’s next home game is Saturday, October 8 at 3:00 pm.
