WINNIPEG — More than 20 years after helping build homes in Winnipeg, former U.S. president, Jimmy Carter and former first lady, Rosalynn Carter are picking up hammers and hard hats once again.
The Carters are set to arrive in the city in July 2017, as part of the Habitat for Humanity’s Carter Work project.
Organizers from Habitat for Humanity made the announcement Monday at 11 a.m.

The Carter Work project will take place in 40 communities across Canada, including Winnipeg, with the goal of building 150 homes. This is in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
The Carters were in Winnipeg in 1993 for another Habitat for Humanity build, where they helped build 18 homes.
“We are delighted that they will be returning to our great city in July 2017 to once again engage with the community to build homes that provide families with the strength, stability and independence to build a better life,” said Sandy Hopkins, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Manitoba.
“This time we will be building 25 homes, our commitment toward the national goal to build 150 homes to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.”
